Jasper beads
Jasper beads
Jasper beads , an impure variety of quartz, are usually red, yellow, or brown in color. The group of stones is opaque and can have various stripe-like patterns.
In antiquity, Jasper was also called the mother of all stones.
Properties of Jasper beads
Jasper is chemically identical to Agate and Flint and is an opaque variety of Chalcedony. Jasper beads feature an innumerable number of patterns that appear 'modern' and are therefore very decorative. The design stands out beautifully, especially in pendants.
The name of the Jasper bead is derived from a Semitic language via Latin and Greek (Íaspis) and simply means 'speckled or spotted stone'.
Jasper has been worked as a gemstone since ancient times. It was used, for example, to make seal stones and trinkets. The Egyptians and Greeks used Jasper to enhance sexuality and to achieve a speedy pregnancy. Among Native Americans, yellow Jasper served as a rain stone (to conjure rain; we are not so fond of this variant...).
There are quite a few varieties; we will name a few: Dalmatian Jasper, Jasper Brecci, Landscape Jasper, Zebra Jasper, and Ocean Jasper.
