Larimar beads Blue in beautiful shades
Although pectolite runs several places to find on Earth, Larimar beads are only found in the Dominican Republic. Larimar is a mineral and a rare variant of pectolite. Because it is said that the Dominican Republic was part of the mythical Atlantis, Larimar is popularly also called "Atlantis Stone.
On November 23, 1916, Father Miguel Domingo Fuertes Loren asked permission to the Ministry of Agriculture and mining, to investigate a certain blue rock he had discovered. He got that permission. Eventually newfound again in 1974. Miguel Mendez, along with a volunteer from the Peace Corps, the blue stone again but now on the beach at the coast of Barahona. Because named his daughter Larissa, he called the stone at her, together with the Spanish word 'mar', meaning sea.
Where pectolite is always white, Larimar is also available in light blue, teal and dark blue. That's because the calcium 'replaced' in Larimar is cobalt, which is blue in color.
