Red coral beads / Coral
Because of its color and the rare red coral beads were used as highly regarded as Diamond, Emerald, Sapphire and Ruby. Red coral is found in deep water with a rocky bottom like on seamounts under ledges and in and around caves, which are often strong currents. Red coral grows at a rate of less than one centimeter per year! That is super slow compared with other corals. Because Red coral cooperates with red algae, which the name suggests, are red, it looks like coral itself has that color but the algae as this coral is inherently white! At the time of the Roman Empire it was believed that coral had the magical property in order to avert the evil eye. A cord blood coral was hung around a child's neck for protection against evil influences. For this reason, it is also seen on Christian images of the Virgin and Child.
Most of the damage to the coral reefs, which are more than two thousand species exist and which are threatened with extinction only a few, is not due to the jewelry industry. The biggest culprits are the fishing, the rise in water temperature and the deep sea extraction of oil and natural gas. Because we naturally have a warm heart, we offer here only environmentally sound and legal to coral.
Sponge coral is colorful but not costly. The natural colors are red, purple and yellow, but it is also painted. It is a common species and therefore Sponge Coral is not threatened with extinction. It is extremely low in comparison with precious stones of the same size and, therefore, are still relatively large beads to be processed in, for example, chains because they do not weigh much.
