Chrysocolla beads
Chrysocolla beads have a translucent to opaque green, blue, blue-green or brown color and a dull to glass shine. The stripe color is light green. That is the color of the mineral that remains when it is scratched over unglazed porcelain for identification. Chrysocolla beads can sometimes be confused with Turquoise beads, but the stripe color betrays which stone it is: that of Turquoise bead is pale blue-white!
Pure Chrysocolla is soft and fragile and therefore not really usable for making jewelry. But also agonized Chrysocolla is found in Chalcedony quartz. The quartz gets its shine and durability.
The name Chrysocolla beads is derived from the Greek words chrysos gold and kolla glue. Chrysocolla was used to solder gold.
