Sterling Silver Bails
A bail , also called pendant eye, is a super handy piece of jewelry to hang a pendant or, for example, a drop. You make the most beautiful jewelry with it. Think of a pair of beautiful earrings with a facet cut drop. The bail ensures that it becomes a neat whole. The most common alloy for silver is called sterling silver.
The silver content consists of 92.5% pure silver. The remaining 7.5% consists of other metals (mostly copper). Pure silver is quite soft and jewelery parts, including the bails / pendant eyes, would therefore be very vulnerable. That is why another metal is added to it.
The mark 925 therefore indicates that you are dealing with sterling silver.
