Sterling Silver Wire

Earrings can be bought on almost every street corner. But, I bet you didn’t know how easy it is to make them yourself! With just a few simple steps, you can create your very own earrings in just 5 minutes! What’s great about making your own jewellery is that you can choose what kind of gemstones or other beads to use, the colours, the shapes, and even the sizes. The possibilities are endless. Think about earrings in the upcoming spring/summer colours. Combine pastel shades (soft pink, blue, gray, green, etc.), with trendy grey’s or even bold colours. • Thin silver wire
• Gemstone beads of your choice
• Any other small decorative beads (silver or gold perhaps)
• Pliers
• Soda bottle cap

Method

1. Wrap the silver wire around the soda bottle cap. Make sure to have one centimetre longer than the circumference of the bottle cap as you’ll need it to make a closure. Cut the silver wire and smoothen the ends with a small file or a piece of sandpaper.
2. Repeat for the second earring.
3. At the end of each ring, twist the wire with the flat pliers to create a small open hook (see video).
4. Now slide your beads of choice onto the earring. For example, you may choose a small silver bead, three blue gemstone beads and again a small silver bead to make it complete.
5. Bend the other end of the earring up a little bit with the flat pliers.
6. Hook the bent piece through the hook you made earlier on the other end and your self-made earrings are ready to go!

Tip: The size of the earring is up to you as you can choose any size bottle cap to wrap the wire around.
