Quartz is the largest group of gems. Just imagine: it is more than 12% of the volume of the Earth's crust! Because quartz occurs and in large quantities thereby simply is very beautiful, this stone has been used as a gemstone since time immemorial. In thousands of years old caves in the Middle East are all beads of quartz found! The ancient Greeks used pieces of quartz to cool off their hands in the summer. The name quartz comes from the German "Quarz", which in turn has a Slavic origin. The Romans thought that quartz was permanently solidified water (ice) because Quartz was found mainly in glaciers.
Characteristics of quartz beads
Both color and gloss (from transparent to opaque) Quartz beads show its versatility. Even optical effects like stars and cats eyes occur.
