A bit about Abalone beads

An Abalone is a large clam that lives in a shell. They are also known as ears of the sea and muttonfish. The shell of the clam looks a bit like a big oyster shell, but the colour of an oyster shell cannot compare to that of an Abalone shell.  The Abalone shell has a special green hue, with touches of colors like red, blue and black. These set of colors ensure that the shell remains very special and unique to the human eye. The shells have a low, open and spiral structure, but considering there are 130 types of shell are known to man, each shell shows something different. The special Abalone shells are used to make jewelry, but the shells can also be used as decoration or to create the likes of buttons, for example.

Where do Abalone Shells come from?

The shells of most molluscs can be found along the coastal waters of Australia, the southern hemisphere of New Zealand, West and Noth America and the northern hemisphere of Japan and South Africa.
