Rock crystal beads

This gemstone where the rock crystal beads are made belongs to the quartz group and is the most common form within this group. It has also been known for a long time. Already in Roman times it was found in the Alps and marketed under the name 'petrified ice'. It was called 'krystallos' by Theofrastus (a pupil of Aristotle). In 1529 Georgius Agricola (a German scholar, known as 'the father of mineralogy') introduced the name 'quartz'.

What properties do Rock Crystal beads have?

The color of rock crystal beads is always colorless. If a quartz crystal has a color it is not called a rock crystal but it gets a different name like smoky quartz (gray to black), rose quartz (pink), amethyst (purple) and citrine (yellow). If there is any color in a rock crystal, it is of inclusions such as pyrite, gold, tourmaline and rutile. Even then, the name quickly changed to, for example, rutile quartz.
In nature, rock crystal is widespread, but sharpened stones are not common. In addition to the use in jewelery, it is a form of glass that is often used when making lamps, lenses and watches. The clear and transparent properties are therefore the most appreciated in this gemstone. Likewise, the spheres of clairvoyants are often made of rock crystal. In alternative medicine you often see rock crystal in the form of pyramids, obelisks and eggs.

Rock crystal beads how is it processed?

In jewelery it is used both in facetted form and in cabochon cut form. The facet cut shape is sometimes used as diamond imitation. A connoisseur will quickly expose this 'fopsteen'.
A more grateful application is that with a sunken engraving. The engraving is carried out in the rock crystal. The magnifying property of the gemstone comes into its own.
When working with rock crystal, it is important to avoid heat. The stone can discolour. The result of the color that can arise is not guaranteed.
